Singulair is the trade name for the generic montelukast sodium developed by Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a subsidiary of Merck & Co., Inc. It can improve the symptoms of asthma and chronic rhinitis by blocking leukotrienes which occur when there is inflammation. These are released when the body inhales allergens, such as pollen or dust.
