Mammography catches breast cancer at earlier stage

Some younger women may avoid breast cancer screening because they feel they have a low risk of being diagnosed with a health problem. However, new research suggests that women who have breast cancer diagnosed by mammography tend to have favorable treatment outcomes.

The Swedish Cancer Institute of Seattle researchers who conducted the study said that mammography may lead to better treatment outcomes because the procedure tends to catch tumors in their early stages when they are more treatable. This may make a prescription to buy Tamoxifen or other treatments more effective.

For the study, the team examined the medical records of nearly 2,000 individuals who had been treated for breast cancer at the center. The results showed that patients whose cancer was diagnosed through mammography experienced more rapid recoveries and less risk of experiencing a recurrence.

The researchers said that early diagnosis may mean that a woman's breast cancer can be treated with less invasive therapies. This may enable patients to forego more harmful treatments like chemotherapy. For some, a prescription to buy tamoxifen may be sufficient after their tumor has been removed.
