Exercise is one of the best ways for individuals with rheumatoid arthritis who require a prescription to buy Hyalgan to improve their condition. However, new research suggests that many individuals with the condition remain inactive.

After analyzing data from 176 individuals with joint pain, researchers from Northwestern University found that about two out of five people with rheumatoid arthritis do not engage in any type of physical activity. Given the high prevalence of the condition and the degree to which joint pain can worsen through inactivity, the researchers said this could add up to a major public health problem.

The team recommended that public agencies launch initiatives to encourage individuals with rheumatoid arthritis to exercise more. This could represent a major factor in helping people overcome the symptoms of their condition.

"Our results suggest that public health initiatives need to address the lack of motivation to exercise and promote the benefits of physical activity to reduce the prevalence of inactivity in those with rheumatoid arthritis," said Jungwha Lee, who led the investigation.

Lee added that there is too much evidence of the importance of exercise and dangers of inactivity to continue enabling rheumatoid arthritis patients to avoid activity.
