Seniors' depression may worsen in the spring

Depression is very common among seniors. Many older individuals require a prescription to buy Paxil to manage their mood problems. With spring approaching, some experts say the warmer weather and longer days may actually make a senior's depression worse. It may seem that depression would be worse in the winter, but Kelly Richard, a care manager with LivHOME, an at-home senior care service, said that a person who is feeling restricted in the activities they can do may start feeling even more down when they see other people getting outside and becoming more active. "Typically, winter is associated with the blues and spring is considered a time of increased energy, optimism and hope," Richard said. "But for seniors suffering from depression, the change of season can make feelings of sadness, hopelessness and lethargy worse. The change of weather, often accompanied by longer, brighter days, can actually overwhelm seniors." She recommended that friends and family members of seniors watch for the signs of depression during the spring and suggest treatment if it appears that an individual is experiencing a problem. This may include seeking a prescription to buy Paxil. |
