Strength training may benefit osteoporosis patients



Physical activity is important for individuals who are at risk for develop osteoporosis. However, not all types of exercise are the same. While cardiovascular training is important, experts say that individuals with weakened bones may benefit from muscle-building workouts as well.

Physical activity is important for individuals who are at risk for develop osteoporosis. However, not all types of exercise are the same. While cardiovascular training is important, experts say that individuals with weakened bones may benefit from muscle-building workouts as well.

Rachel Cosgrove, the founder of Results Fitness, wrote in the Huffington Post that she has seen many clients improve their bone strength after starting weight training regimens. Despite the fact that this type of exercise is far more common among men, she believes women have much more to gain.

"I have always said that there are far more benefits to strength training for women than there are for men, including a decreased risk of osteoporosis," she wrote. "There have been numerous studies which have shown weight bearing exercise increases bone mass."

When resistance training is paired with a prescription to buy Evista, women may experience substantial improvements in their bone density and a reduction in their risk of developing osteoporosis. The International Osteoporosis Foundation estimates that 200 million women worldwide have the brittle bone condition.
