According to new research from the University of Michigan and published in ACS Chemical Biology, the depression medication Paxil may also be able to help avert heart failure.

The research found that paroxetine, the chemical name for Paxil, inhibits G protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK2), which is overexpressed in patients with heart failure. Further research showed that paroxetine helps strengthen the heart's contraction, and therefore improve overall heart health.

Heart failure shouldn't be conflated with heart disease, which includes heart attack and stroke. While the two may at times be associated, heart failure particularly refers to a heart that can't pump blood throughout the body as effectively as it should. Because that is the heart's primary function, the term resulting sounds as though the heart has stopped altogether, while in fact it has only slowed down its output.

Patients suffering from heart failure may want to buy Paxil from cost-effective Canadian and international online pharmacies. According to the National Institute of Health, heart failure affects up to five million Americans and leads to over 300,000 deaths annually. Its causes range from coronary artery disease and high blood pressure to diabetes. Treatments include medicines and, in severe cases, heart transplantation.
